Udayan Children’s Village

375 million children live in India, more than in any other country in the world. An estimated 18 million of these children live on the streets. Some are orphans; some have parents unable or unwilling to care for them. These children’s dai

ly lives often consist of begging and digging through trash for scraps of food, before searching nightly for a safe place to sleep on the street. Many inevitably turn to crime or prostitution to survive.

Our dear friend, Jaimala co-founded Vatsalya to endeavor to meet the needs of these children, who are so very dear to her heart. As part of her organization, she created the children’s village of Udayan, which means “rising and moving ahead”. It is now a safe home for over 50 children, who were once living on the streets of India.

Udayan is the only program of its kind in India. It addresses the issues of orphaned and abandoned children in a very holistic and comprehensive manner. Its unique approach has brought much success to the program and abundant happiness to the children.

…Sponsor a Child. It’s just $750 (all of which is tax-deductible!) to pay for all of their expenses for one year at Udayan - including educational, clothing, living, FUN :), and medical. If you wish, you can cultivate a relationship with your little one with letters, holiday gifts, and other fun exchanges.

...Donate funds for their “wish list” which includes such things as vocational workshops, classrooms, residential unites, and transportation.

Namaste India Children’s Fund (NICF) is dedicated to making a difference in these children’s lives.

The mission of NICF is to provide safe housing, a nurturing environment, and educational opportunities for the street children of India. To accomplish these goals, NICF financially supports organizations in India that create environments for children, where love abounds, so that knowledge and skill can grow along with their imagination. NICF is committed to working only with those organizations whose track records prove their demonstrable support and care for the street children of India.

When I met Jaimala, I knew - well, I hoped! - that she was a soul-sister and friend for life! I have grown in my appreciation and respect of her over the years. Indeed, she is one of the most charismatic, powerful, and compassionate people I have ever had the good fortune to meet. I am excited to introduce her to you here.

She co-founded Vatsalya in 2000 with her husband, Hitesh. Both of these remarkable friends have combined their brilliance and education with their

passion for children to pour their lives into creating a warm, safe and beautiful village for the street children of India.
